Husband, father, Marine, Vietnam Veteran, protector of animals, and, devoted family man, Ronal Dean Shaw, 71, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Saturday, August 4, 2018.
"I will be around you whenever the wind blows, the rain falls, when the sun shines, and in the beautiful night sky."
Ron was born November 13, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN. and grew up as a kid riding Schwinn bicycles with playing cards on the spokes in the late 1950s, to growing up fast and joining the U.S. Marine Corp in 1966 to participate in combat in Vietnam. He graduated from Franklin Community High School and immediately went into the Marine Corp.
After Ron's tour of duty was completed in Vietnam, he married Carolyn Spearman, the love of his life. They were married on Sept. 28, 1968 in Franklin, for this year would be their 50th year of marriage. Ron and Carolyn started a family in the 1980s with the birth of their daughter Adriane Crabtree in 1981 and Alex Shaw in 1982. Fond family memories include eating pizza and watching Star Trek every Saturday night, and going to rent movies to watch as a family. Ron's favorite movies of all time include The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and Platoon.
Ron was a longtime blue-collar worker, with most of his tenure in welding and line work at the former Arvin Franklin plant for more than 20 years.
The Shaw family requests those who knew Ron to reflect on your personal encounters with him and think of him fondly. The family knows Ron loved his time with his family, especially his wife Carolyn Elizabeth (Spearman) Shaw of Franklin, son Alex M. Shaw and daughter-in-law Sarah Shaw of Indianapolis, IN, daughter Adriane E. Crabtree and son-in-law Ross Crabtree of Greenwood, IN., and his four grandchildren, Cora & Harper Shaw, Lydia & Robert Crabtree. He was preceded in death by his parents Marshall Ward Shaw and Lucille (Carter) Shaw. The Reverend Larry McAdams will conduct a service Friday, August 10, 2018 at 7PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN where friends may call from 5PM till service time at the mortuary. Full military honors will conclude the service and being conducted by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post #205 Honor Guard. Final inurnment will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
