After a long battle with lung cancer, Jo Manno of Oak Ridge, located in Llano County, Texas passed away Thursday, July 28, at home with her husband and all four of her children by her side. Jo was born in Burnet, Texas to Beulah Violet (May) and Paul James Riley. She grew up in Marble Falls and attended Marble Falls High School, where she enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the drum line of the marching band. After high school, she moved to Austin where she worked as insurance adjuster and office manager. She enjoyed her work, and was an active member of the Insurance Women of Austin for several years, serving as their president from 1969 to 1970.
She and her beloved husband, William Manno, Jr., enjoyed spending time traveling with their family. Among her favorite destinations were Colorado, Bermuda, and Winstar. Upon retirement, Jo and Bill moved to the custom home they spent decades meticulously building in Oak Ridge. Many happy gatherings of family and friends were hosted at what Jo lovingly referred to as 'Loch Casa'.
She was an active member of the Oak Ridge Property Owners Association, serving as secretary for many years. Jo volunteered weekly for TeleCare, checking in on at-risk and elderly residents at the Horseshoe Bay Fire and EMS Department. Additionally she volunteered at the Texas Hill Country Theater. She contributed to various charities, most involving children. As a member of the Women's Service League, she participated annually to raise money for "Christmas Is For Kids." She particularly cherished spending time with the children with special needs who attended the annual Christmas Party.
Jo considered her family her greatest treasure. She is preceded in death by her father, Paul James Riley, mother Beulah Violet May Riley, brother James Ray Riley and his wife Vera, brother Albert Filmore Riley and his wife Mary Jane, sister Ruth LaFern Riley Heffington and her husband Lyndon, grandson John Colter Levi Bushrow, niece Wanda Jean Riley Rodriguez, father-in-law William Manno, Sr., mother-in-law Josephine Calo Manno, brothers-in-law William George and Ben Jacob.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, William Manno, Jr., her four children: Vicki Jo Manno of Bastrop County, Texas; Kathy Ann Manno Bushrow (husband John) of Central Texas; William Manno III (wife Bonnie) of Bastrop County; and Kristi Anne Manno (husband Tim Washecka) of Round Rock, Texas. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Marion Jacob and Marietta George, both of San Antonio.
Those who will miss her profoundly also include her adored grandchildren (to whom she was affectionately known as Nonna) Jedediah Bushrow, Jeremiah (Mac) Bushrow (wife Jessica), Wesley Manno, Chris Manno (wife Chandel), Caleb Manno (wife Meagan), Hannah Manno Guajardo (husband Johnny), Samantha Washecka, and Elizabeth Washecka as well as great grandchildren, Jarryn Bushrow, Elana Bushrow, Jeremiah Bushrow, Caroline Bushrow, Camden Manno, Arrow Manno and Aurora Manno, Additionally, she is survived by many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
Visitation for Jo will be held from 6 to 8 p.m on Wednesday, August 3, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 N US Highway 281, Marble Falls, TX 78654. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 4, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1803 FM 1431, Marble Falls, TX 78654. Interment will follow at the City Cemetery of Marble Falls, 400 South Avenue S.
