Roger Wagner
Help us celebrate Roger! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Roger.
The baby of ten children, Roger Marvin Wagner was born November 17th, 1946 to Theodore and Mildred (Cox) Wagner in Oakes, ND.
Roger attended school in LaMoure, ND graduating in 1965. He enjoyed playing high school football and acquired the nickname "Tiny" from his teammates, for his size on the football team.
His true love was farming. After graduating he remained on the family farm and didn't venture far from it. He farmed together with his father and brothers for many years. Roger raised livestock and grew crops of mainly corn beans and grains. In later years, his nephew Cameron Wagner farmed with him. Roger liked to get up every morning and get on his 4-wheeler, with his loyal dog, Lola and drive through the cows. He loved watching those calves run around and he would do that before anyone was around the farm. He just loved his farm. And that's what he did. He lived it. We also need to mention his "red" equipment and love for those red tractors and red combines.
In August of 2019 after health issues that forced Roger to require nursing care, he entered the Oakes Good Samaritan Society in Oakes, ND. He settled into his new environment off the farm and made the most of his time. He enjoyed playing Bingo, shooting the breeze with fellow residents, riding his exercise bike, visits and daily phone calls from his sister, Alice (whom he fondly called His Drill Sargeant) and the care from the staff at the Good Sam.
He passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, May 25th, 2021 after getting ready for the day. Roger was loved and will be missed by two brothers - Daniel and sister-in-law Delores Wagner and David Wagner from Oakes, ND; three sisters - Lora Tischer from LaMoure, ND; Alice Raatz and Virginia Schmitz from Oakes, ND; many nieces, nephews, and their families; and his loyal dog Lola.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Mildred; brothers Virgil, Newton and Donald Wagner; sister, Carolyn Gemar; brothers-in-law Norman Tischer, Marvin Raatz, Floyd Schmitz and Harold Gemar; sister-in-law Orla Wagner; and nephews Arlen Wagner, Dann Tischer, and Jayme Gemar.
He was a member of the St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in rural LaMoure County. His funeral service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar followed by burial at the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Memories may be shared and viewed by visiting www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com.
