Roger Jackson Sherron III September 23, 1946 - October 13, 2022 On October 13, 2022, at the age of 76, Roger died peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born September 23, 1946, in Brownsville, Texas, to Roger Jackson Sherron, Jr. and Mary Matthews Sherron. He was the oldest of four children, all born in Texas. As a child, Roger moved from Texas to California to Florida before settling in Hempstead, Texas, at the age of six. In 1959, the family moved to California and lived on ten acres outside of Sebastopol. Roger attended Harmony Elementary School, Analy High School, and the University of California at Davis. He majored in German and minored in physics and math. He later earned another bachelor's degree in computer science from Sonoma State University, leading to a career as a software engineer and game developer. As a boy, Roger built and set off rockets in the back field; in high school, he built and entered a Van der Graaf generator in the local science fair; his project won and allowed him to attend the National Science Fair in Chicago. After college, he worked at a cyclotron, thus putting his physics knowledge to use. After returning to California, and with a lifelong interest in music and woodworking, Roger built lutes and other period musical instruments. He was also an inventor-building all sorts of gadgets, toys, and the tools to make them. He had a very curious mind and an appetite for knowledge. Musically, he played the Irish fiddle, guitar, and recorder; recently, he bought and was learning to play a bass electric guitar. In Sonoma County, he became the "go-to" guy for all things related to Irish music. Many friends enjoyed sessions and concerts of both local and famous musicians at his home. In 2000, Roger married Ellen Davenport. They bought and remodeled a home in the country, spending many hours cultivating native plants and pollinator gardens. He was an inspired handyman-keeping everything on the property working and in tip-top shape. Roger is survived by his wife, Ellen, his brothers Mike and Patrick and his sister Suzanne, five grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, his longtime friend Kathleen Kraft, and his beloved dogs Maddie and Lily.
