SARATOGA SPRINGS - Roger Alan Matthey, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Saratoga Hospital. He was born on March 11, 1945, in Hackensack, NJ, the son of the late Victor and Winnifred (Koch) Matthey.Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army 1965-1969 during the Vietnam War.He graduated from Los Angeles City College where he studied English Journalism. He went on to work for Transco located in Los Angeles, California.In the early 70’s Roger worked for a political magazine in London. He covered events in Portugal, Ireland, and other parts of Europe.While living in California he was an avid diver. His true passion was reading and writing. Roger is survived by his three daughters, Melissa of Hermosa Beach, CA, Brittany of Saratoga Springs, NY and Amanda of Saratoga Springs, NY; grandson, Ryan of Hermosa Beach, CA; nephews, Judson Matthey, Daniel Matthey, Robert Matthey; niece, Jennifer Matthey and many friends who will miss him dearly.He is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Matthey of Collingswood, NJ and Dr. Wayne Matthey of Columbus, SC.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, New York. Friends and family may call from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.An interment with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm at The Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871, following the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Saratoga Hospital who care for Roger during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roger can be made to the Adirondack Veterinary Clinic, 419 Geyser Rd, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
