Mr. Roger Herman Mathis, age 74, of Armuchee, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at his residence.
Mr. Mathis was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 8, 1946, son of the late William Emory Mathis, Sr. and the late Annie Lou Hughes Mathis. He was a 1964 graduate of Armuchee High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. Mr. Mathis was a lifelong farmer and was a member of the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, he worked as a power operator at International Paper.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Louise Payton Mathis; three children, Dewayne Mathis (Mary), Armuchee, Sandy Headrick (Jeff), Rome, and Eric Mathis, Canton; seven grandchildren, Haven Mathis, Kayla Mathis, Austin Headrick (Jasmine), Gracie Headrick, TSGT Zac Mathis, USAF (Caytlin), Mandi White (Nathan) and Erika Mathis; three great grandchildren, Atticus Lester, Liam Maxwell, and Lyra White; three siblings, William E. Mathis, Jr., Rome, Patricia Ward, Wetumpka, AL, and Regina Tubbs, Venice, FL; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021, at 2pm at Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Myles Phillips and the Rev. Benny Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Sunday from 4 until 6pm. Social distancing measures will be followed, and masks are requested at both the visitation and funeral service.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church on Monday at 1:30pm and include: Austin Headrick, Curt Ward, TSGT Zac Mathis, USAF, Olan Ray "Trip" Bishop, Blake Mathis, and Christopher Holcombe.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
