Roger Lee Gilley, born April 1st, 1949, passed peacefully in the presence of his dear wife of 53 years, Helen Ann Gilley, on April 17th, 2022, at the young age of 73. He was residing in Charles Town, West Virginia at the time of his passing.
Roger, known simply as Dear, Dad, or Grandad, held many prestigious titles throughout his life, including the jokester, the magician, the golfer, the fisherman, the coach, and "the gambler". Roger committed 16 dedicated years to the safe transport of the children of Loudon County Public Schools. Whether he was clearing out the poker table, showcasing his newest joke or magic trick, or kindly engaging a stranger with one of his enthralling stories, Roger brought joy, laughter, and comfort to all who had the chance to know him.
Roger is survived by his life-long love and best friend of 56 years, Helen Ann Gilley; his three loving daughters, Sharon Marie Messitt, Brenda Lee Gilley, and Karen Ann Cogle; his two sons-in-law, Gregory Raymond Messitt and Michael Cogle; his three adoring grandchildren, Adam Rauf Gilley, Garrett Raymond Messitt, and Delaney Frances Messitt, and his precious great granddaughter, Cora Mae Messitt.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
