On Sunday morning, February 28, 2021, Roger Dale Brock, age 71 passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of Brown County.
Roger was born December 8, 1949, in a log cabin in Clear Spring, Indiana, to the late Hobart 'Ag' and Lillie Mae (Bunch) Brock. He married Tammy S. Garraux on September 18, 1981 in Morgantown. She lovingly survives after 39 years of marriage. Roger retired in 2004 from the Brown County Highway Department, where he worked as a Truck Driver.
Roger had a lifelong love of music, especially bluegrass. He had an exceptional talent for not only playing the guitar but also singing. Roger attended Nashville Tennessee's SPBGMA Music Awards for many years and was honored to have jammed with many renowned artists, including Allison Krause and the McCormick Brothers. He looked forward every year to attending the Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Festival at Bean Blossom & would play with other musicians until the wee hours of the morning.
Some of Roger's favorite times were spent with family around bonfires, camping, deer, coon & rabbit hunting & fishing. Always quick to laugh, he could entertain for hours with stories & music. Roger also enjoyed listening to and watching political programs. He was an avid mushroom hunter, telling many that he could 'smell them before ever seeing them'.
Roger was a member of the Nashville Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Shriner's Club, SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America) and the Speedway Conservation Club in Brown County where he was a former Vice President
Roger will be missed by his wife, Tammy; children, Roger 'Bub" (Danielle) Brock Jr. of Brooklyn & Margo (Tim) Boles of Greenwood; siblings, Herbert Brock of Gosport, Inez 'Sis' Walters of Trafalgar, Ronald Brock, Fred (Karen) Brock, Troy Brock, LaVerne (Ronnie) Mays, all of Brown County & Lillie Mae Perry of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jody Hodges; and a brother, Hubert Brock.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral Home. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Cemetery in Brown County.
