Roger Lee Benthin, age 83, lifelong resident of Watertown, died on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Jenkins Living Center at Watertown surrounded by friends and family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church at Watertown with Rev. Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett officiating. Visitation will be held at the Church in Watertown two hours prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Watertown at a later date. Judy Evenson will be the pianist. Honorary Casketbearers will be Jack Day, and Scott, Mike, and Troy Moeller. Active Casketbearers will be Robert and Scott Campbell, Richard Zweig, Scott Jongbloed, Dave Crawford, ad Ryan Scriver.
Roger Lee Benthin was born at Watertown on August 26, 1937, the son of Fred Hugo and Elsie Hertha (Lentz) Benthin, Roger attended school in Watertown through the 9th grade.
At the age of 15 he started working for his father's business of plumbing and electrical installations. He and his father worked side by side for several years, and after his father's death in 1990, he took over the business. Being he was operating the excavating business, he did trench/installation for the telephone company. Over the years, Roger had built various homes in the area and also worked at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown for over 50 years. Roger retired on October 20, 2017.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Watertown. In his free moments he enjoyed gardening, traveling, and collecting antiques.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and siblings, Shirley Schwartz, Darlene Hurlbert, and Verlaine Wagner and a brother-in-law,
Survivors include his special friend, Janet Scott of Watertown, siblings, Bonnie Moeller of Luverne, MN and Sharon (Jack) Day of Rockville, IN along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
