Roderick J. Pelletier, 90, 10098 St. Rt. 13, Camden, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Bethany Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility in Rome where he had been a resident since May 10, 2021.
He was born on June 15, 1931, in St. Francis, ME, the son of Belone and Mary Jandreau Pelletier.
Rod proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army serving in the European Theatre and then Korea. During his time in Korea, he was an infantry solider who received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his distinguished service.
He was united in marriage to Helen M. Wiggins. Helen passed away on March 31, 1992. He was later married to Ruth Matteson Oyer until her passing on May 9, 1996.
Rod was employed as a machine operator for Omega Wire for over 16 years. He then was employed as a custodian for Camden Central School District, retiring in 2006.
Rod was a lifetime member of the Camden VFW Post 6530 and the Camden American Legion Arthur S. Moran Post 66.
Rod enjoyed reading and everyone that met Rod would say how pleasant a man he was.
Surviving are his two sons, Roddy Bryer, of Plainville, CT, and Randy Pelletier, of Bristol, CT; a sister, Greta Pelletier, of New Britain, CT; a brother, Carroll (Jan) Pelletier, of New Britain, CT; his six step-children, Dorothy Krick, of Dolgeville, and Chet Pietrowski, of Camden, Julia Hawkins, of Lee, Thomas (Sabine) Oyer, of Camden, Mary Jane Todora, of Rome, and Sherry (Jeffrey) Engel, of Munnsville; and many step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Rod was predeceased by five sisters, Linda Thibodeau, Evelyn Rosenthal, Muriel Berner, Pearl O'Leary, and Fernande Pelletier; and five brothers, Lawrence, Adjitor, Arnold, Bertrand, and Rodolph "Rudy" Pelletier; and the mother of his children and first wife, Laura Briggs Pelletier.
Rod's family wishes to express their gratitude to his late wife's niece, Denise Hanna, for helping to care for Rod over the past years. Her kindness and compassion will always be remembered by Rod's family. The family would also like to thank the staff at Bethany Gardens, the Home Helpers of Camden, and the VA Home Based Primary Care of Rome for the support and care shown to him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 St. Rt. 13, Camden, where the Rev. Nathan Sharrett will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Westdale Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
