Roberto G. Cabriales, Sr. passed away on August 11, 2025, surrounded by family.
Roberto was born on September 1, 1938, in Harlingen, Texas to Juan Alberto and Petra Cabriales (youngest of 8). He grew up on his parents' ranch in Harlingen, where he learned to love animals & the outdoors.
A proud Veteran, Roberto served 12 years in the U.S Army where he achieved the rank of E6 (Staff Sgt). Served two tours in the Vietnam War, where he was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart, that he wore proudly! After leaving the Army, he moved his family to Houston, Texas where he had different jobs including an Orkin man. In 1984, he moved his family to Galveston, where he began his career of 20 years for TDCJ Hospital. Dad met no stranger, everyone who came through the tunnel gate knew they would be greeted with a smile, joke or laugh. He was quickly nicknamed "CAB".
Roberto married the love of his life, Delia, in 1964. If you ask mom, he was very persistent with getting her to be his girlfriend. Together they raised their family in Fort Hood, Germany, Kentucky, Houston and finally settling in Galveston. They built a life full of love, laughter, strong work ethic, and strong family values. He met no strangers and welcomed everyone. He showed us what unconditional love was and to keep family together no matter what.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delia; his children Gloria (Daniel), Armando (Gigi), Roberto (Karyn) and Julie (Smiley). 13 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, once again reunited together.
A celebration of Roberto's life will be held on Monday August 25, 2025, with a viewing from 10-11. Mass of Christian Burial will begin after at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1224 Cedar Dr. LaMarque, Texas 77568. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. Roberto will always be remembered as someone who loved like no other, a man who put GOD first always. He loved to make jokes, especially for April Fools, we always knew we would get a call. Every year no matter whose birthday he would call and sing the whole song to us. He will be truly missed, we made lots of memories and captured lots of photos/videos to be reminded of his laughter, smile & voice. Roberto's warmth, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
When it was time to go he never hesitated to tell us...Your dad/grandpa loves you, May GOD bless you and your family!
