Roberta Mae Onufrey, 91, passed away peacefully at her home at The Gardens in Port St. Lucie, Florida on March 1, 2021.
Roberta Mae Schuster was born in Queens, New York, to Joseph Schuster and Anna Gordon on July 20, 1929. She was the couple's third daughter. She will join her siblings Carroll, Virginia and Donald in heaven. She is survived by her sister Doris (Denning) also of Port. St. Lucie. As a young woman Roberta was an Artistic Roller Skater who won several championship titles and numerous accolades.
A longtime resident of Stuart, Florida, Roberta moved to the area with her husband Emery and their four children in 1968. Like many women of the time, Roberta was a homemaker while her husband worked at Grumman. It was in this capacity, and keeping up with the changing times that Roberta took interest in cosmetics and became one of the very first Mary Kay consultants. Roberta quickly became a National Sales Director, traveling the country and spending time with Mary Kay Ash herself. This is a position she maintained for over 40 years.
Roberta's passion for empowering women and giving back to her community was evident in her active social life. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach, and also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America volunteer organization, where she held the position of Grand Regent for many years. She was a member of Soroptimist International, and the Red Hat Society. Roberta had an affinity for performance and the arts, she loved to dance and spent many years practicing and performing with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Jensen Beach.
Roberta was preceded in death by her loving husband Emery (Bud) Onufrey and her daughter, Donna Lynn Jones. She is survived by her three children, Gary (Linda) Onufrey of Nebo, North Carolina, Deborah (Dennis) Hardy of Stuart, Florida and David Onufrey of Stuart, Florida. She was a loving Nana to three grandchildren, Crystal Jones, Donna Pulito and Myles Ellis.
Her grander than life personality, and sparkle that lit up every room she was in will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Martin de Porres at 10:00am on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 followed by a burial at Forrest Hills Cemetery in Palm City. All are welcome.
