The family of Roberta A. Nielsen is saddened to announce her passing January 27, 2022. The oldest of two children, Bobby was born April 18, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to Paul and Nell Wordtt. After graduating from Milford Mill High School in 1959, she majored in Art History at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduation, she married Lt. Robert E. Nielsen and spent two years as an Army wife. The couple then moved to Farmingville, NY where Bobby taught art to students from elementary through high school all across Long Island. Her teaching career lasted for 30 years, with the last 12 at Sayville Middle School in Sayville, NY.
Bobby was an extraordinary swimmer, innovative artist, photographer, and a fierce champion of higher education. She earned her Master's Degree in Fine Arts from SUNY Stony Brook and did post graduate work at dozens of universities all across the United States.
Upon retirement, the couple moved to Montgomery, TX to be near their grandchildren and enjoy life on Lake Conroe.
The ceremony will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.
Bobby is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Robert; her sister, Paula; sister-in-law, Susan; son, Erik; daughter-in-law, Vicky; niece, Meredith; and grandsons, Jackson and Sam.
