Robert P. Van Sprang, 75, of Toms River, New Jersey died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1943, son of Anna and Andrew Van Sprang. He attended Catholic schools in Hoboken and South Orange, New Jersey and earned both Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Seton Hall University. He was the VA's Regional Director for Benefits in New Jersey. Bob served in Vietnam with the 1st Air Cavalry Division and continued in the Army Reserves retiring as a Colonel commanding a 400 Bed Hospital at Fort Hamilton, New York. He is the recipient of many awards including a Presidential rank award (civilian), a Bronze Star, achievement medals and many commendations throughout his career in Government and the Military. He is a life-time member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann, of 51 years, daughters Fredrica Van Sprang, Gretchen Feldman and son-in-law Mark Feldman. He is blessed with seven grandchildren, Lindsey and Gillian Feldman of Palm City, Florida and Xavier, Bryce, Maxwell, Elijah and Yazir Van Sprang of Jamesburg, New Jersey. Bob is also survived by his brother Richard and sister-in-law Karen Van Sprang.
Bob's blessing in life was always his joy and love of family, extended family and many friends. His belief is that the "Best Is Yet To Come".
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 28th, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Justin's the Martyr Catholic Church on Fischer Boulevard, Toms River, New Jersey.
