Robert Oliver Tribe completed his earthly mission on July 8, 2023. He was born to Oliver J. and Jeneal R. Tribe on April 13, 1943, in Ogden, UT. Bob grew up in Ogden and worked with his Dad on many projects, but most of all they enjoyed restoring old cars together. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Weber State University. This is where he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Claudia Johnson. They were married on June 18, 1965, in the Logan Temple.
Throughout their marriage, Bob and Claudia moved many times. They started out in Ogden and moved on to Kaysville, Logan, Smithfield, Newton, and Centerville, Utah before making a big move to Oregon City, Oregon. After nearly five years, it was time to return to Utah - Paradise, Logan, Hyrum, and St. George. A couple of years in Dillon, Montana, before moving back to Smithfield, then to Sigurd, Lewiston, Roosevelt, and finally, Vernal, UT. Bob and Claudia restored some of those houses. (We don't know why, either.)
Bob loved the Lord and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a full-time mission in Hawaii, and obediently served in many other callings, including Bishop and Young Men's President.
Bob loved reading about church history. While living in St. George, he enjoyed playing the role of Jacob Hamblin and would tell Jacob's history to people as they enjoyed 'Historic St. George Live!'. He had beautiful collections of antique guns and phonographs. He loved to take something old and make it new again. He restored cars, phonographs, houses, and furniture. He did beautiful work and was very talented in many areas. He could make or fix anything. His last great project was completely restoring a 1940's Jeep Willy. He enjoyed driving that in parades and taking it to car shows, usually with Claudia, their dog, and a grandchild or two.
He enjoyed watching old movies with actors like John Wayne, Charlton Heston, and Clint Eastwood. Bob loved to sing along with many of his favorite artists including Marty Robbins, Glen Campbell, Sons of the Pioneers, and others.
He loved his family and did what he could to help them and teach them with love and patience. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his son Thomas Robert. He is survived by his loving wife, his five children, Lani (Tony) Walton of Corinne, UT, Kim (Travis) Lofthouse of Rigby, ID, Steve (Monika) Tribe of Phoenix, AZ, Dale (Heidi) Tribe of Roosevelt, UT, and Melissa (Ryan) Darling of St. George, UT, his sister Lori (Jim) Lefgren, 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on July 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hyrum, UT cemetery.
