Robert E. Treece "Bob" beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully on November 9, 2020 at the age of 93.
Bob was born in Bluffton, Ohio, October 1, 1927 to the late Una and Dale Treece. The family was raised in the small town of Bloomdale, Ohio. After high school, Bob served in the US Army from 1946-47 in the 88th Infantry Division stationed in Italy. Upon discharge he began his college career. He spent two years at Bowling Green State University, and then transferred to The Ohio State University where he graduated with his BS in 1951, and his MSc in 1953 in Applied Entomology. In 1957 he completed his education and graduated from Cornell University with his PhD in Entomology, where he was a member of Gamma Alpha, Gamma Sigma Delta, Sigma XI. It was here that he met the love of his life.
In 1955 Bob married Margaret Mansfield in upstate New York. They began their married life in New Jersey, where Bob was employed at Rutgers University as an Extension Entomologist.
In 1958 they moved to Wooster, Ohio where he worked at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. Bob studied insect pests of forage, cereals and livestock. He served as Associate Chair of Entomology at The Ohio State University at both Wooster and Columbus from 1973 until his retirement in 1991. He was elected to Honorary membership in the Entomological Society of America.
In order to be closer to family, Bob and Marge moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 2016. Here they made many new friendships in their retirement community, The Cascades, which made relocating from Wooster much easier.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret; children Diane Leshman (Jeffrey) of Greenville, SC, and Jay Treece (Karen) of Batavia, Ohio; his brothers Charles Treece of East Palestine, Ohio, and Dr Florin Treece of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren Rebecca Leshman, and Daniel Leshman both of Greenville, SC; and a great-grandson David "Austin" Payne of Greenville, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Ellen Karr, and his son Thomas Treece.
Bob was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Wooster, an active philatelist and numismatist, and enjoyed travel, sports, bridge, and his beloved family. He was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Wooster.
