Robert Martin Totis, age 65, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 in St. Mary's Hospice.
Robert was born in Villanova, a suburb of San Giorgio di Nogaro, province of Udine, region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia Italy. The family immigrated to Athens in 1955. He became a United States citizen on October 23, 1969. Robert graduated Clarke Central High School in 1973. After high school, Robert attended Saint Meinard Seminary and School of Theology in Indiana for one year. He returned to Athens and received a Certificate in Real Estate and a diploma in Data Processing-Programming from Athens Area Technical School. Robert was employed by several businesses in the Athens area. Robert then attended The University of Georgia to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1990. After college, Robert was employed by the United States Forestry Department in Sitka, Alaska for a seasonal position. Upon returning to Athens, he was employed by the USDA Food Inspection Service as a poultry inspector at Marjac Poultry in Gainesville, from where he retired in 2014. Robert loved sports and a Georgia Bulldawg fan to the bone. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens.
His father, Benito Totis, preceded him in death.
His mother, Rina Totis of Athens; brother, Paul Totis of Athens; and several cousins in the US and several aunts and cousins in Italy, survive him.
A memorial mass will be held 2:00 PM Friday, July 30, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. As of now masks are optional, however, the family would like everyone to wear a mask.
