Robert Earl Smith
Remembering Bob
Robert Earl Smith passed away in his sleep November 3, 2000. He was 49.
Bob was born at the Bethesda Navy Hospital, Bethesda, MD Oct 5, 1951. He married Darcy Lilly Smith, later divorced. He married Sheryl Duncan, later divorced. Bob and Sarah Gail Loftin were united Aug 28, 1994 and just recently moved to Clearfield from Sandy.
Bob was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era. In recent years, he had become very active in the Veteran's National Creative Arts Festival. In '99 he won a Gold Medal for his artwork and had just returned from the Washington, D.C. Festival where he won one Gold and one Silver Medal for his original contemporary Christian Compositions. He was proudest of his Silver Medal because it was a contemporary Christian song he had written, which won a Silver Medal in the "pop" category. He was just gearing up to make a C.D. of his own music. God has put it in other hands now.
He was a very accomplished artist, designer, singer, songwriter, guitar player and loving husband and father. He had designed the "Pegasus" Performance Cab, which was prototyped, but never put into production, as well as some related toys. His music was his life. Songs came to him instantly and he could finish a composition in an hour. He felt he was a conduit for God's love. He will be eternally loved and missed by everyone who knew him and was touched by his joy, laughter and music.
Bobby, if you only knew how many people loved you and were touched by you.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Gail Loftin Smith, Clearfield; a son, Jarvis Smith, 25; a daughter, Michelle Renee Hay, 27, Kearns; a daughter, Sarah Anne Smith, 18, Orem; a son Robert Daniel Smith, 16, Orem; one grandson, Adam Michael Hay, 3, Kearns; and his three cherished felines. Also his father, Marvin E. Smith Sr.; a brother, Marv Smith, Jr.; and one sister, Linda Goforth. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Washburn Smith, Jacksonville, FL.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Nov 7, 2000 at the Mountain View Baptist Church, 2585 E. 3000 N. (Hwy. 193). Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Directors, Lindquist's Layton Mortuary.
