Robert Lee "Bob" Sands, 96, of Bedford, Kentucky passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 at The Waters of Scottsburg in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was born on June 12, 1926 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late James A. Sands and Maggie (Guynn) Sands. Bob graduated from Austin High School in 1944. He served during WW II in the U.S. Navy. On December 2, 1973 he married Bessie Louise (Vance) Gaines-Sands, who passed away on Dec. 21, 2011. Bob was a retired shift operations engineer for I.K.E. in Madison, Indiana retiring in 1991. He was a past member of the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Milton, Kentucky. Bob enjoyed watching I.U. Basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Kenneth, Marvin and Lester Sands; a sister, Mary L. Wohler; two stepsons, R.C. and James B. Gaines; and a step great grandson, Kevin. Survivors include his three sons, Paul Sands of Scottsburg, Indiana, Steve (Wilma) Sands of New Albany, Indiana, and Roger Sands of Scottsburg, Indiana; stepdaughter, Shirley E. Brierly of Madison, Indiana; stepson, John C. (Nancy) Gaines of Milton, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many great great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation: 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 12, 2022, and after 10:00 am Thursday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
