Robert "Bob" Richards, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. At his side was his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Richards (Young).
Bob was born to John Richards and Grace Richards (Worth) on July 28, 1945. He was the third oldest of four children, and is survived by his brother, Tom Richards, and his sister, Ann Calp. His older brother, John, passed away in 2012.
Bob grew up in Carroll County, and developed a love of sports, horses, and cars. After graduating from North Carroll High School in 1966, he and Linda began a relationship that would see them also settle in Carroll County where they started a family and raised their only child, Tim. Bob worked as a shipping and receiving specialist for nearly 30 years at companies in Westminster and other local areas. During that time, he was active in softball leagues, played various sports with Linda and his friends, and helped coach Tim's soccer teams.
As an avid lover of horses, Bob routinely helped care for them at farms owned by friends. Sports were always a passion of his, particularly golf and softball, and he was also very much a car enthusiast. Bob had an ability to recall small details about engines and years of certain makes and models that lasted throughout his life.
In 1999, Bob became a grandfather for the first time, and then again in 2002. His grandchildren, Nathan and Lillian Richards, called him "Pop-Pop", and he was as devoted to them as they were to him. He would attend various sporting events, school plays, musical performances, and was always so supportive of Nate and Lily.
In 2004, Bob and Linda moved to Hanover, PA, and later to Spring Grove, PA. They continued to play golf, travel, see friends, and, of course, visit their family in Maryland. Bob will very much be missed but is thankfully free from his long battle with cancer. Bob is survived by his immediate family, and by many nieces and nephews.
The family services are being held privately under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. of Spring Grove.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the Children's Miracle Network in Hershey, PA in Bob's honor.
