
Reverend Robert Costen Reed Sr.
Pastor Robert Costen Reed, Sr. aka Sonny Pastor and founder of Damascus Road Missionary Baptist Church.
Reverend Robert Costen Reed Sr., the son of the late George Alvin and Willie Mae Daly Reed, was born October 5, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was educated in the Catholic School System in Nashville, Tennessee, the Indianapolis Public School, Crispus Attucks High School and Central District Theology Seminary.
Robert served with the United States Marine Corps on active duty in the Korean War from 1952-1955, and on inactive duty util 1960.
On April 23, 1955, Robert was united in Holy Matrimony to Edith Lucille Martin.As a young adult, Robert accepted Jesus Christ into his life and was baptized by the late Reverend John C. Butler into the fellowship of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He regularly attended Sunday School, Leader of Prayer Meeting and was President of the Male Chorus. Robert was ordained a Deacon in 1984. In 1986 he answered the call to the Ministry and was ordained in 1987. He also served as Assistant Pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. In 2004, Robert was led by the Lord to start a new congregation, Damascus Road Missionary Baptist Church where he served until his health began to fail. Robert served the Lord with gladness in the ministry, using his time and energy to seek lost souls and bring them to Christ.
Robert was a faithful employee of General Motors Truck and Bus Division as a Metal Finisher. We thank and praise God for his presence in our lives as a Pastor, Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Son, Uncle and Friend to many.
On Saturday, November 26, 2011, God called Robert from labor to rest at Westminster Village North where he received the very best of care. His daughter Stephanie Denise Reed preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his legacy to his loving and devoted wife of 56 years: Edith Lucille Martin-Reed: two daughters; Ramona Reed-Hart(Tommy) of Indianapolis, IN. and Edie Reed-Summerour(Herbert) of Marietta, GA.; two sons; Michael Reed of Indianapolis, IN and Gregory Reed of Summerville, S.C.; two brothers; George Reed(Juanita) of Huntsville, AL. and Joe Harold Reed and two sisters Zephyr Reed and Hara Barnes of Indianapolis, In: three brothers-in-law; George Martin(Barbara), Leslie Martin(Gloria) of Haslett, TX. and Joseph Martin; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family and friends.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith:

which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
