Robert E. Powers unexpectedly passed away at his home on April 25, 2022. Bob (aka BP) was born in Fall River, MA, on December 27, 1957, to the late Joan and Leonard Powers.
At a young age BP reached the highest honor in Boy Scouts by attaining the Eagle Scout rank, the most coveted award in scouting. He lived by the Boy Scout oath his entire life. In his adult life he worked his way through the Real Estate field, eventually becoming a Real Estate Broker for the State of Connecticut. BP owned properties around town and put tremendous effort into rehabbing and upkeep of various homes. In his later years he focused on numerous construction challenges, fixing old and creating new.
BP's life was adventurous through his love of nature, sailing and taking to slopes skiing. He was a very talented skier who never turned down an opportunity to hit the slopes. He pushed himself to the limits with this sport, ending his ski seasons at Tuckerman's Ravine, which he conquered many times.
Bob was proud of his Irish heritage and never tired of telling of his trip to Ireland. His passion for travel started early, as a Rotary exchange student in high school. He later traveled to the Middle East and England.
Above all else Bob loved people. His heart was enormous with kindness, and he would basically do anything to help someone. Whether just meeting you or one of his may lifelong friends, BP would find a way to help and accomplish whatever you needed. He truly was that person that would give you the shirt off his back. He was generous (to a fault!)
BP's favorite holiday was St. Patrick's Day. He was our leprechaun. His Irish heritage came through every day but on St. Patrick's Day, it was his day. There were many Grand Marshalls he drove in the Meriden St. Patrick's Day Parade in his white Mustang convertible. He also participated in the New Haven St. Patrick's Day parade.
Bob is survived by his twin sister, Ann M. Carr (John Edmund): his sister Kate Williams Poniatowski and brother, John (Jay) Powers (Donna). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Edmund Carr, Helen Gryguc (Michael), Heather Williams, Sean Williams, Kathryn Poniatowski, Anne Serafino (Mike), Christina Ehnot (Dave), and Steven Powers. Bob also leaves behind four great nieces: Aubrey and Ashley, Evie and Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, Bob is also predeceased by his brother-in-law, John Poniatowski.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, April 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, CT 06450.
