Robert Earl Pentz, 81, of Mercersburg passed away on June 28, 2021 in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Born July 30, 1939 in Greencastle, PA, he was a son of the late Edgar Ellsworth and Gertrude Arlene Shatzer Pentz.
Bob attended Greencastle High School, and began working at Dairy Maid as a milkman. He served in the United States Army (1963-1967), receiving a Machinist Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and letter of appreciation from his Officer for performance of duty, support and loyalty; and, that his display of spirit, wholehearted cooperation, and degree of proficiency reflected highly upon his soldiering ability and in his assignment as a Mechanic.
On February 10, 1962 he married Joyce Ann Rhodes. From 1965 until his retirement, he was employed by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro as a Machinist and Assembly Foreman. His work for Landis included travel throughout the United States and internationally, to Europe, Russia, South Africa.
Bob was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842, Wesley Yeager American Legion Post #606, Ft. Loudon Men of the Mountain, and the Mercersburg Sportsmen Association. Bob loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed a yearly hunting trip to his very dear friend's home in Binghamton, NY. He also loved to search for Indian arrowheads, morel mushrooms, and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed meeting "the guys" at Milky Way restaurant for breakfast, and attending auctions and yard sales with friends and his wife, Joyce. You could find him tinkering in his garage or preparing for a garage sale of his own, he ensured all things were in working order and clean, so everyone walked away happy with their visit, and their purchase. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce A. Pentz, and two daughters, Leta Decker (Greg) of Mercersburg, and Denise Dofflemyer and her fianc? Troy Mills of Shippensburg; Grandchildren, Greg Decker and his wife, Stephanie, Robert Decker, Spencer Dofflemyer, and Griffin Dofflemyer; and siblings Joseph Pentz (Ruby), Mary Lawson, Susie Dodson, Jane Kesselring (Jerry), and Joyce Hykes and her fianc? Melvin Gelsinger.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Kerlin, and brother, James Pentz.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc. of Mercersburg, PA. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service. Pastor Grant Brouse will be officiating. A separate military honors service will be held 3:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery Mercersburg, PA for those of want to attend.
