Robert "Jody" Nickell, 79, of Borden passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Clark Memorial Hospital.
Jody was born March 6, 1941 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Louisville to Buford and Ruth Nickell. Jody graduated in 1959 from Charlestown High School and enjoyed his monthly meals gathering with his classmates. On June 30, 1961 he married his beloved Patti. Jody retired from PSI - Gallagher Station in 1994 after 27 years.
Jody loved his children and family more than anything. He was a shining example of what a husband and father should be. He loved to camp and travel, and working around his yard. He never met a stranger, and would start a conversation with about anyone he saw. He loved their little dog Molly. His favorite times were spent gathering with friends and family for cookouts to laugh, play euchre, and pool.
He was a member of Jaycees of Sellersburg, volunteered with Boy Scout Troop #6 at Speed Memorial Church, Job's Daughters, attended First Baptist Church of Henryville, and played Santa Claus at Christmas for the children of Borden Elementary. He was a former Mason with the Buckner Lodge #631.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Patricia Reed Nickell; children- Robert Scott Nickell (Susan Reynolds) of Scottsburg, Dana Lynette Nickell (Philip Bradley) of Sellersburg, and Martin Wayne Nickell (Rita) of Crothersville; siblings - Patricia Stribling of Jeffersonville, and Gary Nickell (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren- Shannon Lehman (Douglas), Branden Nickell (Hannah), Logan Chapman (Lauren), Rebecca and Nolan Brandenburg, and Christina Thomas (Dennis); great-grandchildren- Everett Lehman and a sibling due in November; Xaylee Nickell; Dennis, Josh, and Christopher Thomas; and Daemon Farmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother- Ralph Nickell, and sister-in-law- Jenny Nickell.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the Market Street Chapel of Naville and Seabrook Funeral Homes.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at SCI-Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Henryville.
