Robert Mitchell "Bob" Staib, 77, of Lexington, KY, died on July 18, 2022, of prostate cancer after a long and courageous battle. Originally from Louisville, Bob was born in Indianapolis on October 23, 1944. He graduated from Louisville Male High School and from the University of Kentucky with undergraduate and graduate degrees and was an ROTC instructor there. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the US Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain, and flying 98 combat missions before leaving to fly for private airlines. He retired as an airline pilot for United Parcel Service in 2009 after over 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Motsinger, parents, Elmer Robert and Margie Maxine Staib, a daughter, Elizabeth Lee Staib, and a brother, Donald Lewis Staib. He is survived by a sister, Joy Hawkes, a daughter Anna (Patrick) Peterson, a grandson, Nathaniel, nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Bob truly enjoyed life to the fullest, and had a spirit of fun, friendliness, humor, and generosity. He was an avid golfer and earlier in his life was a runner and ran the Boston Marathon. He had numerous other interests, including helping other people with cancer and charitable work, spending time on St. George Island, and being with friends and family. The family would like to thank the staff of Baptist Health Cancer Center. Graveside service will take place on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 11 am at the Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to be made to the Lexington Humane Society or the Woodford Humane Society. www.milwardfuneral.com
