Robert Milton Veselka, age 87, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was born August 24, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, to Bohumil and Josephine (Vasko) Veselka. Robert graduated from Elkhart High School, in Elkhart, Indiana; class of 1949. He then joined the U.S. Navy in 1949, served at N.A.S. Kingsville, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953.
By trade Robert worked as an electrician for 30 years. He built and raced dragsters and funny cars and was well known in the early days of NHRA. Robert built one of the first funny cars in the 1966. He owned and operated several fitness centers, was in the car stereo business, and a boat captain. In the late 1980's, Robert moved to Port Aransas, Texas, after his competitive spirit led him to take up bill fishing and he never looked back. He also had a passion for gourmet cooking.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two children Mark and Sheryl. Robert is survived by sons, Randall Veselka (Cindy) and Vance Veselka; and daughter, Alana Lyons (Steven), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He truly loved life itself.
