Robert James Martin, 87, Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, Nov 2, 2019. Born June 21, 1932 in St. Charles, Virginia, he was the oldest child of the late John Richard and Anna Mae (Stevens) Martin, he was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a longtime member of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and sports. He was a mechanical engineer for Tube Processing Company for many years before retiring in 1998.
He married his high school sweetheart Margaret Sue Bartley Martin on November 1, 1952 at the Deep Springs Baptist Church in Dryden, Virginia. She survives. They shared 67 wonderful years together.
Other survivors include, two sons, Timothy Dale (Patty) Martin and John R. "Rick" (Annie) Martin; two granddaughters, Carson and Josslyn Martin; one grandson, Ryan (Jenny) Martin; one great-granddaughter, Rikki Martin; siblings, Reba Haynes, Sylvia Doss, Charlotte Reynolds, Betty Finch, John Bruce (Linda) Martin, Shirley (Chuck) Frambers, Steve Martin, Stanley (Margaret) Martin, David Martin and Sandra (Ken) Hodge and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:30-1:00 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, followed by the service at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, where military graveside rites will be conducted.
