Robert Nelson Lowery, 88, of Kodak, TN passed away peacefully on
September 15, 2022 after a short illness. He is survived by his children: Dr. R. Derric Lowery and wife Nancy of Upton, MA, Jonathan I. Lowery of Bethlehem, GA; Sister, Elizabeth Kirksey and husband Tom Kirksey; Sister in-law, Nancy Hubert; Brothers in-law, Dwight Beauchamp (Sue) and Mark Beauchamp (Tena); Special Friends, Kristen and Phil Sevene and Karen Booher, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Robert in death were his wife of 46 years, Janice Beauchamp Lowery, and parents, David and Catherine Lowery.
Robert was born in York, SC on July 19, 1934. He served honorably in the U. S. Navy (submarine service) and the Korean War from 1952-1955. After his military tenure, he attended and graduated from Carson-Newman College with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1960. He then worked 40 years as a textile chemist for Burlington Industries and Callaway Chemicals before retiring to Tennessee.
In addition to his professional career, Robert was a passionate master woodworker for over 60 years. He was the resident Marquetarian for the Southern Highlands Guild (SHG) in Asheville, NC and sold his work all over the world. As part of the SHG, his work was displayed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
A graveside service will be held at Beech Springs Cemetery, 498 Beech Springs Rd., Kodak, TN 37764, on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM.
