Robert Lewis "Bob" Love went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2021, at the age of 73, in the presence of his family.
Bob was born on August 11, 1947, in Lovington, New Mexico; the second of two children born to Bernard and Robby Love. He married the love of his life, Leah Dodson, on June 7, 1969. Bob and Leah were blessed with fifty-one years of marriage.
He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of New Mexico in 1969 and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the Texas Tech School of Law in December of 1972. Bob later moved his family to Florida for a time where he earned a Master of Law (LLM) in estate planning.
Bob served in the New Mexico National Guard from 1969 to 1979, during which time he served as JAG for a one, and two-star General and also for an air-defense artillery brigade. He was extremely proud to have worn the cloth of the nation on his back and was more than willing to strike up a friendly conversation with a fellow service member.
He spent his career as a lawyer serving the great people of Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. He would never shy away from conversation, whether professional or personal in nature, and he was a man who truly never met a stranger. He served his community in a variety of capacities from serving on boards, to being a city-councilman and even the mayor of Hobbs, NM.
Bob's greatest passion outside of his family was helping to grow and mentor people who were fighting addiction. Bob was a self-diagnosed alcoholic, and at the time of his death had been sober for 42 years. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) was a huge part of Bob's life, and the list of lives impacted by Bob's love and devotion of this incredible pursuit is too long to list.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Linnie Joe Strunk.
He is survived by his wife, Leah; their daughter Amber Layton and husband Greg of Lubbock; their son Damon Love and wife Anne of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren Madeline and Nathan Layton of Lubbock; and a host of nieces, nephews, and their families.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.
