Robert "Lil Joe" "Grumpy" Deakin, Sr., 96, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Poland, Indiana. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 9, 1926 to the late Howard and Ethel (Downing) Deakin. Bob graduated from George Washington High School in 1944 and married the love of his life, Martha Clark on October 12, 1946. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, worked at Link Belt in Indianapolis for 47 years, and was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #69.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting, and traveling. He also loved to spend time on the lake, fishing, swimming and skiing. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; brothers, Roland and Beryl Deakin; grandsons, Ronnie Williams and Robert Deakin, III; and granddaughter, Molly Williams.
Survivors include his daughters, Phyllis (Steve) Koch and Candy (Ron) Williams; sons, Robert (Cindy) Deakin, Jr., Darrell (Sheila) Deakin, Rocky (Ladonna) Deakin and Scott (Sandy) Deakin; Eighteen Grandchildren, Thirty Six Great-Grandchildren, and Thirteen Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Alan Driver officiating and burial with military honors to follow at 1:00 P.M. in Westridge Cemetery in Indianapolis.
