Robert Kormanik, 80, of Richland, formerly of New Cumberland, PA, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2022, at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown.
Born June 17, 1942, in Windber, PA, he was the son of the late Peter Kormanik and Frances (Rzeszutek).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Sidor, and mother-in-law, Betty Sidor.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Paulette Kormanik; two children, Kathleen (Michael) Battista and Robert J. Kormanik; grandson, Paul Battista; sister, Joan (John) Kozora; step-mother, Virginia Kormanik, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Robert graduated from Richland High School, Class of 1960. In 1964, he graduated from the Virginia Military Institute where he became fond of Stonewall Jackson during his time there. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Artillery Strategies. Robert furthered his education at Lehigh University where he graduated in 1966 with his Master's Degree in Engineering. Robert proudly served his country during the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive from 1967-1968 as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army 11th Armored Calvary Black Horse Division of the Army Core of Civil Engineers. He was a Professor of Surveying at Penn State University, Harrisburg Branch. After he left Penn State, he worked for the State System of Higher Education where he was involved in various construction and expansion projects across PA. Robert was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He enjoyed going to Chincoteague, VA, to the beach with his family, watching tall ships and celebrating Christmas with them. Robert had a love for bird and duck watching at the National Wildlife Refuge in Chincoteague. He was a Revolutionary and Civil War history buff as well. Above all, he was a family man first and an amazing grandfather.
At Roberts’s request, all services are private. Burial with full military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Arrangements were entrusted to Frank Duca Funeral Home, 404 Walters Ave. Johnstown, PA, 15904. (near PA Drivers Center and Armory).
