Robert Ronald (Ron) Hernandez, 71, died unexpectedly at home on November 1, 2022. Ron was born in Mount Vernon on August 27, 1951, to Morris and Mercedes Hernandez. He grew up in La Conner and attended school in both La Conner and Mount Vernon. He enjoyed playing football and made many great memories, graduating in 1971. He was a hardworking and dedicated man who many remember when he worked at the Evergreen Store. He began his meat cutting career at Mount Vernon Meat Company and then went to work at Schenk Packing, working his way up to management where he was employed for 47 years. Ron retired in June of 2022. Schenk Packing was where he met his wife Cheryl; where they shared a friendship for many years and eventually started dating and were married on April 14, 2000. Together they enjoyed traveling in their RV with their two dogs Mya and Burdee. Over the years; some of Ron's hobbies included fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. On a perfect weekend, Ron would start his day kicked back in the recliner with a few episodes of The Rifleman or a Sunday "kicking the tire" and a good Seahawks game! We will miss his humor, one-liners, phone calls, smiles and hugs.
Ron is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hernandez and their children, Jessica (Terje) Culp, Erica Hernandez, Halei (James) Young, Daniette Stites (David Lovell), Ashell Gomez; grandchildren, Jeret and Karlin Culp Drew Payne (Shelby), Mason Payne (Mayson), Alonna Payne (Nick) Julian and Levi Young, Conner Gray, Ashton Coggins, and Cruze and George Gomez. Great grandchildren are Tenice, Chasyn, Huxen and Stryker Payne.
Siblings are Morris (Valerie) Hernandez, Jerry (Annie) Hernandez, Tony (Margie) Hernandez, Belinda (Ken) Torseth, Jim (Gale) Hernandez, Lionel Hernandez, Anita (Mike) Roozen and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
