Robert "Bob" Thomas Groves, 77, a retired architect, died on Friday, July 3, 2020, peacefully in his sleep, in his favorite chair at home. Service: 2p.m Saturday July 18 at Restland Funeral Home, Visitation: 4pm to 6 pm Friday at the funeral home. Intement: Restland Memorial Park. Bob Groves was born January 12, 1943, in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Vannie D. Groves and Katherine P. McCabe. He was a 1959 graduate of Tascosa High School and a 1968 graduate of Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Architecture. Groves had a long history within the Dallas architectural community, specifically in the areas of hospital and school construction, for firms including JPJ, HKS, and FKP. He and his wife met at Texas Tech where he was in Air Force ROTC and she was a member of the service organization Angel Flight. They celebrated their 56th anniversary in June and were residents of Richardson for 40 years. His interests included swimming, bowling, hunting and fishing, reading, and supporting the DFW Basenji Club. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in his honor to the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Survivors: Wife, Linda Jo (Earle) Groves of Richardson; daughter and son-in-law Vanna K. (Groves) and James W. Oberholz of Allen TX; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey T. and Brittany (Blackburn) Groves of Lewisville TX; granddaughters, Katelyn and Nicole "Nikki" Oberholz of Allen and Marina and Lorelei Groves of Lewisville; grandson, Joseph "J.T." Oberholz of Allen; sister-in-law Darlene Groves of Aurora, CO; nieces Denise Groves of Aurora, CO and Dee Lynn Farris of Centennial, CO; nephew Douglas Groves of Colorado Springs, CO; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his elder brother, Donald G. Groves.
