Mr. Robert Methvin "Pete" Gravitt, Jr., age 76, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at a local hospital.
Pete was born in Rome, Georgia on January 30, 1948, son of the late Robert Methvin Gravitt, Sr. and the late Dorothy Willie Studdard Gravitt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to joining the Air Force, he attended Berry College. After the Air Force he worked for several years as an engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He later worked for 35 years with Motorola, retiring in 2013 as a Project Manager. Pete loved sports, genealogy, taking pictures and traveling, but his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Jones Gravitt; a son, Brooke Gravitt (Lori); three grandchildren, Chase, Miles & Lexi Gravitt; a sister, Linda Pendley; nephew and nieces, Daniel Pedley, Shelly Anderson, Erica Jones, Ellen Mason, and Whitney Jones.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1pm at Life Church with Pastor Jason Stockton officiating. Interment will be on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 9am at Georgia National Cemetery with the Rome American Legion Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Life Church of Saturday, January 18, 2024, from 12pm until the service time.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Rome-Floyd Humane Society or the Floyd County Animal Control / Public Animal Welfare Services (P.A.W.S.) or the charity of your choosing in the name of Robert M. "Pete" Gravitt, Jr. would be appreciated.
