Robert E. Goecker, age 80, of Seymour, passed away at the Lutheran Community Home surrounded by his family on December 11, 2023. Bob was born on November 26, 1943, in Seymour to the late Earl A. Goecker and Hulda L. (Bobb) Goecker. Bob was a 1961 graduate of Seymour High School. He married Lucille (Claycamp) Angel in 1961. Bob worked with his father at Goecker Building Supplies from 1962 until the construction business was spun off in 1981 and became Goecker Construction, Inc. He was the President of Goecker Construction, Inc. from 1981 to 2009 and retired in 2014. In 1986, Bob married his wife Jeri (Stitsworth-Hudson) Goecker. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as Chairman of the Congregation plus various boards. He served as a member of the board at Irwin Union Bank and Bloomfield State Bank. Bob received the 2003 Greater Seymour Chamber Small Business Person of the Year. He enjoyed showing quarter horses for over 40 years and competed at the AQHA World Championship. Bob enjoyed watching his grandkids compete in various sports and continued to support Trinity Lutheran High School. Survivors include his wife, Jeri Goecker, his three sons, Thomas (Jane), Max (Becky), Chad (Tammy); 2 step-daughters, Tina Morgan and Kim Hudson; sisters Shirley (Rev. Terry) Hoese and Connie (Max) Roeder; brother, Don Goecker; 6 grandchildren, Brandon (Kristen), Jodi, A.J, Emma, Tyler and Kayla; 2 great-grandchildren Gwen and Miles; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may visit with Bob's family from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana. There will also be an hour of visiting before the service, which will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 605 S. Walnut Street, Seymour, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Bob may be donated to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran High School.
