Robert Garrett of The Woodlands, Texas, went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 29, 2020 at 77 years old. He will be remembered for his faith in God, devotion to his family and his gentleness. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather.
Robert was born on July 4, 1943 to Albert and Mildred Garrett in McHenry, Illinois. On November 27, 1965, he married Christel B. Johnson, who he has been devoted to for 55 years.
Robert graduated from Noblesville, IN High School in 1961 and went on to receive three degrees. He graduated from Bellarmine College (BA Mathematics), University of Detroit (BS Mechanical Engineering), and Newark College of Engineering (MS Engineering Management). He was a recognized member of several national honor societies such as Tau Beta Psi, Alpha Sigma Nu, and Pi Tau Sigma. In 1966, Bob began a cooperative program with ExxonMobil, where he would continue working for 35 years. After retiring in 2000, he continued a career in Fuels Product Quality Control Consulting for 8 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Mary Kay.
He is survived by his wife, Christel B. Garrett, and his two daughters, Elizabeth Jane Curtin and Victoria Lynn Stratton (Christopher), and his four grandchildren, Joseph Garrett Curtin, Geoffrey Ryan Curtin, Christina Marie Stratton, and Garrett Robert Stratton, who will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the Garrett family has requested that donations be made to Life Gift.
In 1999, Bob received the ultimate gift of life at St. Luke's, Houston Medical Center. He was the recipient of a liver transplant that extended his life for 21 years. Without those bonus years, Bob would not have met his four grandchildren and would have missed the chance to watch them grow up, graduate high school, and begin college. Because of this, his entire family is grateful to Dr. Patrick Wood, Dr. Claire Ozaki, and Dr. Joseph Galati.
During his 21 bonus years, Bob advocated for organ donation across the state. In 2005, he testified on the Texas house floor, in support of establishing a statewide organ donor registry. He would encourage everyone to consider registering as an organ donor, and to support Life Gift as they are able.
