Robert R. "Raughn" Ferrell, 80 of Jefferson, formerly of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at his home.
Raughn was born on February 28, 1944, in Springfield, OH, the son of James and Maude (Greer) Ferrell. He was a 1963 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School and on April 10, 1965, he married Sharon Weckler at Immanual United Methodist Church in Jefferson. The couple welcomed their daughter, Erika, two years later. Raughn was employed at the Chrysler Plant in Belvidere, IL, in 1965 and retiring in 2001 as a Process Team Member/Group Leader. Following retirement, Raughn turned his love of cars into managerial positions at the Superwash in Jefferson, Fort and Edgerton from 2001 - 2012 and Fort Car Wash for a few years following. He also shared his automotive passion with the Jefferson community and was the Coordinator of Jefferson Cruise Nights for ten years. Raughn served as president of the Scenic Meadows Condominium for over six years, where he fostered a well-maintained and welcoming environment for all residents, ensuring that the exterior grounds were kept to the highest standards of care and presentation. Raughn was on the Membership Committee of the Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce and was well known for his current involvement in the City of Jefferson Planning Commission. In 2019, Raughn joined Evergreen Cemetery as their grounds supervisor and his contributions included the restoration of the cemetery office, garage, and the sexton house, doing extensive landscaping, and most recently inviting Governor Tony Evers to tour the cemetery. Raughn was a passionate advocate for Evergreen Cemetery, recognizing its deep significance in the history of Fort Atkinson. He worked tirelessly to ensure its preservation and was a master at securing donations to fund improvements, helping to maintain the cemetery as a cherished landmark for future generations. His dedication to this cause was a testament to his commitment to honoring the past while making a lasting impact on the community. Through his efforts, Raughn played a key role in ensuring that Evergreen Cemetery would continue to serve as a place of reflection and history for years to come. No matter the position he held, Raughn dedicated himself fully to his work, investing not just his skills and knowledge, but also his passion and commitment. His driving force was a deep desire to improve everything he touched, always striving to make things better than they were before. Every project, task, or challenge he encountered became an opportunity for growth and enhancement, reflecting his unwavering belief in the power of positive change. His efforts were not just about accomplishing tasks, but about leaving a lasting, meaningful impact that would endure long after he was done.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Ferrell of Jefferson; daughter Erika Ferrell of Madison; his sister Loretta Hartwig of Carmel, IN; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Raughn is preceded in death by his beloved parents, his brothers Mike and Jim Ferrell, and numerous other relatives who held a special place in his heart. He was also preceded by his cherished pets, Sheba and Teddy, who were more than just animals to him?they were family that left paw prints on his heart that will forever be a part of the loving memory he leaves behind.
An open house to celebrate Raughn's life will be held from 11:00AM - 1:00PM on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home of Jefferson. A private family graveside service will be held following the open house at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson.
