Robert Eugene "Bob" Bruce, 88, passed away in his home in Bloomington, Indiana on April 21, 2021.
He was a dedicated father, husband, and person who lived his life giving to others.
Bob was born in Oklahoma City, OK on September 17, 1932 and later moved to Altamont, Illinois where he went to High School. He is a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Korean War August, 1950 to June, 1952.
He later married Sally J. (Schoenoff) Bruce, Teutopolis, Illinois on November 26, 1954 and moved to Jeffersonville, Indiana working with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Ohio River. Later he became a Civil Engineer and relocated to Bloomington, Indiana to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Monroe.
He helped with the start of "Smithville Little League Baseball" back in 1966. Baseball was his favorite sport, as he coached Little League, Babe Ruth, and All Star Teams ages 5 thru 13 years of age for many years. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Bob attended St. Charles and St. John Catholic Church and was an honorary "Grand Knight" with the Knight of Columbus Group in Bloomington. He was a member of the American Legion.
Sally, his wife, passed away February 10, 2020 and one son, Richard Bruce passed away January 1, 2015. He is also preceded in death by his parents, James Bruce and Nancy Flo (Crist) Nichols.
Surviving relatives include: his children, Christine A. (Ray) Humphrey, Jon Michael (Darlene) Bruce and James Bruce; grandchildren, Jason Bruce, Shelby Miles, Brigitte Bruce, Anthony "Tony" Bruce and Raymond Humphrey; and his great grandchildren, Jayden Bruce, Izzabella Bruce, Bodhi Bruce, Taylor Enochs, Mia Miles and Rhen Humphrey.
Bob will be laid to rest in a Mausoleum next to his wife at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington, Indiana on Monday, April 26, 2021 in a small gathering of family and friends. Public visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Valhalla Cemetery Chapel with services beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to "Smithville Little League" now Smithville Diamonds.
