Robert Reginald Borrego was born on March 10, 1952 and passed away with family by his side on June 27, 2022, following a year-long battle with cancer. Robert was born in Santa Paula, California to Robert V. and Tillie Borrego. He attended St. Sebastian Elementary School, St. Bonaventure High School, Moorpark Community College, and Cal State University Northridge where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Robert had a range of interesting jobs, beginning with his years as an altar boy at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He worked for a railroad company in Arizona, for the California State Department of Social Services and as a peace officer for the California Youth Authority. Later in life, he served as a transit driver for the City of Santa Rosa and as a bus driver transporting Special Education students in Ventura County. Many of his jobs included working with children or teens as he had a special ability to form close bonds with them due to his easy going personality and non-judgmental nature.
Robert was a deeply spiritual person. Early in life he began to study and practice yoga meditation. He enjoyed reading and sharing books on metaphysics and Native American culture. Robert also enjoyed listening to 60's and '70's music and had an extensive album collection. He was a lover of nature, and friends and family knew him as a kind, gentle and selfless person.
Robert has a large and loving extended family and enjoyed spending time at family gatherings. He enjoyed watching his beloved Dodgers and was overjoyed to see them win the World Series. He was a kid at heart, and was a big fan of The Simpsons, Charlie Brown Holiday specials, and The Twilight Zone marathons. He never turned down seafood nor a chocolate dessert, and celebrated many birthdays with his family having the biggest piece of cake. He had the best sense of humor, keeping us all in stitches at mom's dining room table. We will forever miss him showing up in his Hawaiian shirt to all the family get-togethers.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and daughter, Felysha. He is survived by his parents, Robert V. and Tillie Borrego; daughter, Roberta Gallardo; sisters, Marie Pelkola and Diana Martinez; brother, Jonathan Borrego; life partner, Katherine Bornhauser; grandsons, Steven Thomas, Jr. and Jayson Maybry; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the FilCare Management care givers, Livingston Hospice staff, and especially Marie, Roberta and Katherine for providing loving care to Robert during his last months.
