Robert "Bob" Harold Shelley
Help us celebrate Robert "Bob"! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Robert "Bob".
It is said that a successful man is one who has lived well, laughed often and loved much . . . One who leaves the world better than he found it. One who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. Robert Harold Shelley ('Bob') was such a man. His was a life well lived and he was well loved.
The Lord called him home on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the age of 86 at Compass Park Hospice in Franklin, Indiana. Though Bob struggled the past year with failing health, he never missed an opportunity to crack a joke, offer a smile, or share a story with those who surrounded him. His infectious laugh made you smile just to hear it. His love of all things western, native American, as well as his love of horses, drew him to spend twelve years in Arizona with his loving wife, Sandy, where he enjoyed living the life of a modern cowboy in the beautiful home he designed and built.
Family and friends were an important part of Bob's life. He was proud to be a husband to Sandy Shelley; father to Robert Shelley, JR; brother to Don, Jim, Margaret (Ferrell), and Jack; uncle, great-uncle, and great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Goldie (Westbrook); wife Sandy; son Robbie; and brothers Don and Jim.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 7, 1936, Bob attended Franklin Community High School before enlisting in the Air Force in 1952, where he served for four years. Bob later went on to become a successful builder and owned Cardinal Homes in Indiana and Eagle Homes in Arizona. He was a gifted designer, artist, and woodworker. He loved to shoot, help his neighbors and friends, and ride his beloved horses. He had a gift for giving - especially of giving bicycles to children who had none.
The family would like to thank all the health care professionals from Compass Park for their great care in the last few months of his life and are sincerely grateful to the wonderful staff at Brookdale Hospice who comforted and cared for him in his last few weeks.
Bob will be forever remembered for his great smile, devious chuckle, quick wit, his heart of gold and most of all, his voracious love of doughnuts! Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort knowing that he is in heaven and reunited with his loved ones.
All are welcome to join us in celebrating his life at his home church, Impact Christian Church, located at 2800 N Graham Road in Franklin on Wednesday, August 3rd. Visitation 5:00-6:00 pm; Memorial Service with military honors to follow at 6:00 pm. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
