Robert "Bob" Lee Pickens, 88, of Seymour passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born December 16, 1933, in Seymour. Bob honorably served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 where he was stationed in Europe. He actively supported the community through volunteering for the Seymour Booster Club and other youth organizations. Bob's life's work was building custom homes throughout Seymour. He was a master craftsman that owned and operated Robert Pickens Builders and later Robert Pickens and Sons Builders until his retirement. Bob was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed large family gatherings filled with big meals, laughter, and love. Bob will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Grace Pickens; daughter-in-law, Shelley Renea Pickens.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Naomi Pickens; son, Roger Pickens and wife, Angie, of Seymour; daughter, Karen Pickens Hedden and husband, Robin, of Loudon; grandchildren, Blake Lee Pickens, Tiffany Renea Ashford and husband, Chris, Roger Lee "RJ" Pickens, II; great-grandchildren, Rylee Denise and Layla Renea Ashford; brothers, Elmer Pickens and wife, Carolyn, and Harold Pickens; sisters, Viola Brown, Sharon Walker and husband, Bill, and Brenda Lee and husband, Leon; and a host of extended loving family members and friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Amedysis Home Care and Hospice, his caregivers, Vivian Pate and Amy Fields, and the Seymour Fire Department, for their gentle kindness and care.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday, March 25th at Atchley Funeral Home with the Funeral Service to follow at 7 PM Friday in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Pastor Dwight Singleton officiating. The Graveside Service will be held 10 AM Saturday in Ellejoy Cemetery with military honors to be provided by the American Legion Post #104.
