Robert Wyman Banks died Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County on September 2, 1935, and the son of the late Robert Lee Banks and Annie Ruth Nicholson Banks, he was the husband of Miriam Rushton Banks. He graduated from Hollywood High School Class of 1953. Early in life he worked with DuPont (SRS) then worked and retired from SCDOT Maintenance Office in Saluda. He was a member of the SC National Guard 122 ENG Company of Saluda. Mr. Banks was a lifelong member of Salem Baptist Church where he served previously as a Deacon and on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Hollywood Ruritan and Woodmen Life.
As a young man, Wyman enjoyed playing baseball and church league softball. He was an avid hunter and fisherman most of his life and an excellent marksman. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and cutting firewood.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Miriam R. Banks, son Richard Wyman Banks (Heather) and daughter Judy Lynn Banks, both of Saluda, and some nieces and nephews.
Mr. Banks was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Sawyer and Joyce Boozer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Jerrod Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after burial.
