Robert J. Armstrong Jr. (1919 - 2021) Bob, 102 years old, passed away on Oct. 23 in Dallas.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 9, 1919, to Mary Dooley Armstrong and Robert J. Armstrong. A visitation service will be held on Wed. Nov. 3 from 3-5pm @ Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. There will be a private memorial service held on Thurs. Nov. 4 at10:00 am @ DFW National Cemetery.
Bob was a WW II and Korean War Veteran. In 1939, he joined the Army Air Corp as a member of the 69th Regiment, Brooklyn NY (The Fighting Irish). Bob joined the US Air Force in 1948 and was sent to Japan, selected by General Douglas MacArthur to serve in his transport unit. He was awarded the Air Medal of Commendation for his heroic work, evacuating American Marines stranded at the Chosin Reservoir. He served 12 additional years, retiring in 1963.
Bob began a business career with Xerox, and then Home Interiors & Gifts. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Gloria, ministering at First Baptist Church Dallas; fishing at Lake Fork, and time with family & friends. Bob and Gloria always set a priority to serve the Lord wherever they lived.
Bob and Gloria Baker were married in San Marcos TX on February 21, 1946. They were blessed with 5 children: Bobby, Paul, Don, Linda, and Jeane, also 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, in 2003, his oldest son, Bobby, in 2012.
