Rita Kay DeVane, Born on Sunday, June 26, 1955 in Griffin, Georgia to Melba and Edward Phillips of Brooks, Ga, Rita Kay (Phillips) DeVane, of Eastman, Ga passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Ga. After graduating Griffin High School in 1973, she obtained an accounting degree, which came in handy during tax season. Most of her working career was spent in either accounting or retail. Rita married the love of her life, Larry James DeVane, on September 12, 1975 at the Digby Assembly of God in Brooks, Ga. Immediately after their ceremony, she moved with him to K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, Michigan where they spent their early years of marriage. Rita has always wanted to go back to Michigan one day. Social media made it possible for her to reconnect and stay in contact with friends from this time. Upon Larry's time in the Air Force was complete, they settled in Newnan, Ga where they raised their family of four children. In 2011, they relocated to Eastman, Ga. Over the last couple of years, Rita has served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post # 126 in Eastman, Ga. One of her favorite hobbies was Bingo with her husband, family, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, William Edward Phillips, of Brooks, Ga, sister, Brenda Dianne Clay, of Griffin, Ga. and a granddog, Laynee. Survivors include her husband and love of her life, Larry James DeVane, of Eastman, Ga. Daughters: Crystal Madaris (future son in law Richard Langridge) of Hogansville , Ga, Chastity Ashmore (Jimmie) of Grantville, Ga, and Katherine Dopson (Justin) of Cochran, Ga Son: Travis DeVane of Unadilla, Ga. Mother Melba Grace Phillips of Brooks, Ga Sister, Lisa Amey of Griffin, Ga. 9 grandchildren and several grandpets whom she loved dearly. Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Visitation will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Brooks Assembly of God, 7401 Newnan Rd., Brooks, Georgia 30205. A funeral service will follow in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to local American Legion Posts be made in her memory.
