Richmond Carlos Bean, Sergeant First Class (Ret, US Army), went on to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 8, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Six months after his mother Mary Louis Cheek, Master Sergeant (Ret, USAF), January 1, 2022. He had the funniest one-liners and the quickest comebacks that kept his family and friends entertained around the clock. If you knew Richmond, you know he had a love for music and always had a play ready to set the vibe everywhere he went.
Richmond was born December 30, 1964, to Mary Louise Wishom in St Louis, Missouri. Richmond attended Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory High School graduating in 1983. After graduation he attended the University of Missouri, majoring in Business Management. Realizing college was not fulfilling enough, Richmond enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1985 where he became an Air Defense Artillery Avenger Crewmember, later reclassifying into what is now known as a Human Resources Manager. After several years in the Army Richmond went back to college and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Richmond spent 20 years in the Army, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as a Parachutist; Fort Bragg, North Carolina assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, culmination his career at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas assigned to the AMEDD Center and School, where he retired October 1, 2005, in the rank of Sergeant First Class. Richmond continued serving his country for an additional 17 years working for the Army as a Department of Defense Civilian.
Richmond led a life serving others, whether as an active-duty soldier, Department of Defense Civilian or a community activist. He volunteered his time at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, diligently creating awareness and building bridges throughout the City of San Antonio as well as the State of Texas government for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Queer/Questioning Plus community. Richmond stood up for what was right and lived his life guided by compassion, love, humor, mentorship, and dedication to others. He was loved by many and made friends everywhere he went. He was a big personality, and his presence filled any room he walked in. Whether he was the masters of ceremony for a retirement ceremony, holiday party or promotion ceremony Richmond was the life of the party.
Richmond was affectionately referred to by some as Daddy Rich, Uncle Richmond, Rich, Bean and several others that are not for public ears (smile). He was full of joy and laughter. Richmond brought an immense amount of joy and laughter into this world and will truly be missed.
Richmond was a member of the Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity as well as the Order of the Military Medical Merit Organization.
Richmond is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Virginia Wishom and Sammie Sutton; his parents, Mary Cheek Richmond and Cenith Bean; and his uncle, Clarence Waller.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Bernadette Wishom and Audrey Rhodes; his brother, Michel Ward; his two nieces, Bernadette Davison and Ashley Rhodes; his great-niece, Laiyah Davison; his aunt, Clara Waller; uncles, Sam Wishom (Barbara) and Clyde Wishom (Metre); cousins, Carol Ann Fletcher, Gwen Prisco, Yolonda Hargrove, Sara Everett-Boyer, Brian Everett, Larissa Lawrence and Marshon Staten; as well as many other relatives, friends and coworkers.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
