Richard Whisenand, 93, of Amarillo, died peacefully Dec. 3 at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home, surrounded by his daughters.
Cremation arrangements were completed Thursday, December 6 under the guidance of Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Whisenand, a native of Amarillo, served in World War II with the U.S Navy. He married the love of his life Jo Nell Sewell, March 22, 1947. She died in 2015.
He was a retired house painter and was a self-taught artist and guitarist and an avid outdoorsman.
He believed in the Lord.
Mr Whisenand is survived by
daughters Dianne, Debby and Nancy Whisenand, a son-in-law, Dana Hubbard, two grandsons and their wives, Sam and Lori Lawson, and Ben and Tara Lawson, four great-grandchildren, Ella, Miles, Max and Sadie, and other family members.
An honor guard at the nursing home conducted a Taps ceremony.
The family wishes to thank VA home health care, Interim Hospice and the nursing home staff for their care.
