Richard Swiers, 92, journeyed to his new destination with ease on July 12, 2022 with family at his side.
Richard was born December 19, 1929 in Elyria, Ohio to George H. and Claire C. Swiers. He was a 1947 graduate of Elyria High School and a 1951 graduate of Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve) with a BS degree in metallurgical engineering. Richard was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
During his senior year, he met his future wife, Marilyn. They married May 31, 1952 and were blessed with a 70 year marriage and 2 children.
After graduation, Richard was called into the Army and assigned as an Engineer at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia, PA. Upon discharge, Richard worked for Western Automatic (now Moen Faucet) in Elyria, Ohio.
He accepted the position for Manager of New Product Development at American Standard in Louisville, KY. He then became VP of Chicago Faucet Co in Des Plaines, IL and retired in 1994.
Richard was a member of The Plumbing Manufacturing Institute (trade organization) and served as Chairman in 1988.
After retirement, Richard and Marilyn moved back to Louisville and enjoyed many years of world wide travel to 6 continents.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Donald G.
He is survived by his wife: Marilyn; son: Rick (Amy) of Henderson, NV; daughter: Beth Swiers of Frankfort, KY; grandchildren: Alex Barker of Dublin, OH, Emily Swiers of Livermore, CA, and Jason Swiers of San Francisco, CA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 12 PM at Ascension Lutheran Church, 13725 Shelbyville Rd, followed by a meal and fellowship. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11-12 PM. Interment of ashes in Floydsburg Cemetery, Crestwood, KY, will be private.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the ICU staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital for their professional and compassionate care provided to Richard and his family during this difficult time.
