Richard Wade Stafford passed away surrounded by family and friends on January 11, 2021. He was born on August 21,1940 to Loyd and Tommie Stafford of Roaring Springs Texas.
Richard attended Motley County schools, graduating Matador High in 1958. He went on to attend Texas Tech University on a football scholarship and set a Southwest Conference Discus Throw Record in 1959. Following his graduation from Texas Tech, Richard played two seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles Professional Football team.
At Tech, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the Double "T" Association. He received a degree in Business Management and after his time with the Eagles was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company, which became ExxonMobil Corporation. He retired with thirty seven years of service and attained the position of Marketing Distribution Operations Manager for the western half of the United States.
He married Julia Ann Herrell on March 29,1964 in Midland, Texas. She was highly supportive of his career with Exxon, and a remarkable wife and mother to their two daughters.
Richard thoroughly appreciated life. He was a well respected man known for his tough exterior and conservative views. He was an avid fisherman, bird hunter and world traveler. His weekly golf games with his friends at Bent Tree Country Club were the highlights of his retirement years.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Loyd and Tommie Stafford, his loving wife Julia Stafford, infant twin brother Riley Stafford, brother David Gale Stafford of Roaring Springs Texas and brother Dr. Bob Stafford of Amarillo Texas. He is survived by his daughters Kim Worrell of Crested Butte Colorado and Kelly Stafford of Dallas, his granddaughters Madison Olguin of Lubbock and Isabella Worrell of Lubbock, his sister Shirley Gilliam of Lubbock and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Monday, January, 18 from 5pm to 8pm at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home located at 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas TX. 75252. Services will be held at the Church of the Holy Communion Cathedral on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 3:00pm located at 17405 Muirfield Dr, Dallas, TX. 75287 with burial to follow at Frankford Cemetery.
