Richard V. Spellman, 75, of Chillicothe, died February 17, 2022 at the VA Medical Center-Chillicothe.
He was born January 4, 1947 to the late Orville V. Spellman and Viola J. Adkins. On May 1, 1966 he married Margaret Ann White Spellman, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Marla J. Spellman, Stuart, FL, Richard V. Spellman, Jr., Washington CH, and Leanna B. (Adam) Sheppard, Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Jordan L. (Charity) Sheppard, Madison L. Spellman, Ethan J. (Jasmine) Sheppard, Mavrick V. Spellman and Livia M. Sheppard; two great-grandchildren, Willow N. and Braxton A. R. Sheppard; and two siblings, Don O. (Gerry) Spellman,Newark, Roger (Cindy) Spellman, McArthur. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Norton.
Richard was a US Army Vietnam War veteran and owned and operated Staffan's Lock & Key. He was an accomplished woodworker and musician, building his own guitars and banjos. Richard was also a member of the Jackson Police Dept. From May 16, 1969 until he was hired by the Chillicothe Police Depart. Oct. 5, 1970 serving there until retirement in 1985.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, Pastor Ryan Bevan officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Caldwell Cemetery.
