Richard C. Serra

North Stonington - Richard C. Serra, 75, of North Stonington, died June 24, 2022, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 10, 1947, in Bridgeport.His school years were spent in Trumbull, graduating from Trumbull High School in 1964. He was the son of August Serra and Florence Pinkus; and is survived by brothers, August, David and Paul; and sisters, Judith and Cynthia. Following high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1964 to 1968, including one year in Vietnam. In 1977, Richard graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, earning a B.S. in geography. The following year, he married Phyllis Peyton. Richard and Phyllis have a daughter Elizabeth, and a son, Spencer. In addition, Richard is also survived by his son-in-law Alistair; and granddaughter Eleanor. Over the course of Richard's career, he worked as a planner for several regional planning agencies, retiring from Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments in 2018. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, with a memorial service to begin at 1 p.m. at Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Avenue, New London.
